Happy new year! I cannot believe that 2019 is over, let alone a whole decade – so what better time to sit back and reflect on the last 10 years?
At the end of 2009, I was 12 years old and NOW I’m 22 years old, I’ve got my degree, I’m in a happy relationship, I’m currently in a graduate role and blessed with family and friends.
In the last 10 years, I’ve moved across the country, travelled to America, Canada, Cuba, Malaysia, Kenya, Japan, Australia and throughout Europe too.
I’ve had braces, I’ve dyed my hair non-stop, had 8 piercings, got my first tattoo – I’ve had the growth spurt from 5ft5 to 5ft11. I finally passed my driving test after 9 attempts!!!!!
I’ve had mental and physical health struggles (glandular fever I’m looking at you) but I made it through! And I think that’s the biggest lesson I’ve learnt from the past 10 years; I’m a bad bitch and I can get through it!
A lot of people have asked what the highlight or biggest success of my year/decade is and I’ve felt like such a little emo kid because I’ve found it hard to answer. Obviously there have been amazing highs this year, but it’s incredibly easy to focus on the negatives and this year has had a few. If there’s anything I’d like to stress in this blog post I think it’s that surviving the year is a success! It’s so easy to think that life is just happening and that’s that – it’s tough sometimes, but we’ve made it through another year and that’s a big achievement.
There’s something quite exciting about 2020 being a fresh new start, it’s time to leave the bad juju you may have encountered in the ‘10s and focus on the bad bitch aura you’ll be exuding in roaring ‘20s
My family and I have adopted the mantra ‘do no harm, take no shit’ and honestly this is now a permanent mood for 2020! Goodbye toxic relationships, goodbye self-loathing and goodbye negative vibes – it’s all being left in 2019.
I hope you all are feeling positive and ready to take on the new decade – if you need an extra push I would 100% recommend following Instagram accounts that make you feel GOOD. No more fawning over face-tuned selfies, we all need positive inspiration – this is why accounts like Girl Therapy are a god send.
Wishing you all the best!
